it just stopped picking up the GPS signal from the USB port. I feel fairly certain that this is not a Delorme SW issue since I did not make any changes to the program. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Delorme Street Atlas SW and still no luck. List when the GPS is inserted and removed, so I am fairly certain it is recognizing the GPS. When I open the COM & LPT port under Device Manager it shows a 'USB Serial Controller D and when I try to update the driver it says I have the latest driver and it says it is a 'Microsoft USB GPS'. It hooks up just fine, so I know the GPS is working. When I move the GPS over to a Windows 7 computer running Streets and Trips I loaded another program, Mapfactor, that uses realtime GPS tracking and it will not hook up with the Microsoft GPS either. Update, the Delorme SW now says a GPS is not connected. As of about 3 weeks ago, about the time of the latest Windows The Microsoft Pharos GPS-500 USB external GPS fed GPS position to the Delorme software without issues.

Invest in a wireless card for the laptop and you have full access to Google/Yahoo maps, satellite views, plus full access to anything else on the internet. If you have a co-pilot to run the computer, it is an excellent trip tool.

At $79, including the GPS receiver, they are a great value. I have used both, and prefer the Delorme product. Can I transfer trip plans from this software into my Garmin 260? If you want better compatibility with your Garmin nuvi, but at a cost of giving up a lot of features and a price for software alone that is close to the other product with GPS hardware included, go with Mapsource. If you want full featured mapping software, or even want to use your laptop as a GPS with a USB receivere, then seriously consider the Delorme or MS products.

In most ways it is vastly inferior to the Delorme or MS products, and is much more expensive than the versions of these products that don't include a USB GPS receiver. But I would hardly call it a better product.

I agree, if your only purpose in getting PC software is to talk to the nuvi, then use Mapsource. My old Garmin GPS 38 will talk over a serial connection to these products, but the nuvi line will not. And it's is worth noting that the nuvi line isn't made to work with either of these products either, that is it will not send out industry standard location information on the USB connection. I have not seen the Delorme in a few years(although I don't expect it yet talks to the nuvi), but the MS S&T definitely can not load files into the Garmin. I tend to prefer the Delorme, but both are good for what they are.

The upgrade process can break other functioning products no matter how you go about it, but once on Windows 10 you can uninstall and. As far as GRLX products go, as long as you are using version 2 it should be fine. I've used both the Delorme and the Microsoft products. If you use any version other than Delorme 2015 with Windows 10 it isnt a good combination.
